Cultivating Community |
Cultivating Community supports the Town of Herndon's core purpose:
|
"Enriching the Quality of Life and Promoting a Sense of Community" |
Similar to a beautiful garden, the many individuals within a
community reflect the collective effort
put forth to maintain its appearance and
health.
Regardless of your neighborhood's location or the style of residence where you
live, your property
and surrounding community are a reflection of you individual
personality. By taking pride in your
property and neighborhood, you can set an
example for everyone in the community, and you will
be supporting similar effort
by your neighbors.
There are several ways in which you can join in cultivating
your community. You can enrich the
quality of life in your neighborhood by
following community standards such as those outlined on
this web page. You may
also be able to meet new neighbors and give them a helping hand. By
getting
involved with issues that affect the quality of life in your community, you can
promote
maximum enjoyment of your surrounding home environment.
|
By following these simple guidelines, you can take part in creating a wonderful neighborhood where you and your family can live. You may also have the opportunity to meet new neighbors and to grow new roots in your community |

What You Can Do OUTSIDE Your Home |
|
What You Can Do OUTSIDE Your Home |
If you are operating a home-based business,
please ensure that it is properly licensed and that
a Zoning Inspection Permit has been provided. Babysitting and child care
services in your
home are considered a home-based business.
Please check with the Department of Community
Development before buying, selling or
renting a home to determine occupancy limits for the particular home.
Use properly installed and functioning smoke
detectors. It is recommended that the batteries
be changed every six months.
Ensure that each sleeping room has a clear
unobstructed means to escape to the outside in
addition to the entry door.
Interior remodeling, alterations and room
conversions require building permits before any
work is started. It can be very costly to remove work started that was
constructed improperly
or otherwise does not meet code requirements.
